Lincoln Center, NYC...

Fabulous Photographers, NYC.....

From Fabulously Dressed above to Fabulously Hilarious below: this photographer (below) was by far my favourite person at NYC fashion week! - he definitely won the award for funniest photographer at NYC fashion week (if there was one!). He was running around frantically trying to get photos of fashionable people as they came out of shows at Lincoln Center, making jovial sometimes flirtatious comments to his poor unsuspecting (until he opened his mouth), subjects as he snapped away at them. He told one fashionable lady that he would like to have a wife like her and then quickly added, when I'm your age (she was roughly 70yrs of age), and then realised he had made a faux pas and just as quickly as he had made the first comment he made another of analogously foot in mouth nature and proceeded to dig himself a deeper and deeper hole - ironically in an attempt to get out of said hole! The poor thing had the best of intentions but somewhere along the way it all just went horribly wrong! (and I'm not even going to ponder about the wet patches on his jeans - being a fashion photographer is clearly no easy feat - between all the running around, the awkward commentary and the wet pants - it's a tough gig people - just something to think about for those of you considering a career in fashion photography!)

Who said bananas are sooo last year....

Who said bananas were so last year?! One year later and Bananas are clearly still in fashion!  (ok maybe this time people are actually eating them rather than wearing them, but still!) This girl totally made my day by carrying a banana around outside the shows at Lincoln Center! The best part is that she wasn't making some sort of Prada related - banana statement, she simply wanted to eat a banana at some point during her busy day!!! So there it is from Carmen Miranda's fruit head-wear in 1943, to Prada's fruit body-wear in 2011, to simply carry fruit as an accessory in 2012 - mother nature rests peacefully in her (grave, heaven, the earth? I don't know where she lives but I'm sure she's happy regardless!) knowing that the legacy of fruit lives on!

In The Name of Fashion....

NYC Fashion Week; a place where 'no one' is 'someone' and 'someone' is anyone. There are no moving subtitles (unless you're ADR (Anna Dello Russo) I'm pretty sure she does have her own moving subtitles)  to differentiate the 'no ones' with good style (aka the million bloggers like myself) from the people society (and by society I mean the fashion world) has whimsically dubbed high up enough in the fashion food chain to be 'someone' - whatever that social construct even means! It's an era where anyone can access anything at any time. The person who started a fashion blog last week could be exposed to thousands of people world wide with just one snap of a camera shutter, one upload of a photo, one click of a mouse.  No doubt even as little as five years ago the 'elite' world of fashion was not so accessible to just 'anyone' (who owns a computer (and has high speed internet!)!) It was not as easy to get your name; your brand out there. But now it's easy right? To have a blog, to post something on YouTube; to become famous in 5 minutes! However, with technology and global access comes more competition. So has anything really changed? Has gaining success become easier or harder? Or just a result of random mathematical anomaly; if the right person happens to click on my blog today; if I happen to run in to the right person today. I guess the one enduring thing is that you are in control of doing the work, putting yourself out there and seizing any opportunities that may arise and the rest is up to fate (or chance or whatever you want to call it!) The rest will follow....
(and maybe there are more important things in the world than a fashion blog (gasp - she didn't just say the unthinkable did she?!) like... perhaps.. (envision a beauty pageant contestant from miss congeniality saying the following:)'world peace'!
